DESCRIPTION: Constitution Day: Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation in the Constitution\n\nGet ready for Constitution Day! Join the American Constitution Society as we critically examine our founding document and reckon with how it has perpetrated structural racism, white supremacy, and inequities. This panel features constitutional scholars and practicing attorneys to discuss the theoretical and practical repercussions of our founding flaws.\n\nACS Northwestern is thrilled to cosponsor this event with the ACLU, as we welcome several prominent scholars and practitioners in the realm of constitutional law and transformative justice:\n\nProfessor Sheila Bedi is a professor at Northwestern Law and director of the Community Justice and Civil Rights Clinic. Recently, Professor Bedi litigated a class action lawsuit in federal court seeking judicial oversight of the Chicago Police Department’s discriminatory and brutal tactics on behalf of several individual plaintiffs and community organizations, including Black Lives Matter Chicago. We are excited to hear her insights as a prominent force in civil rights litigation and movement lawyering.\n\nProfessor Aziz Huq is a professor of US and comparative constitutional law at the University of Chicago. His research centers on individual rights and liberties within the Constitution and the fundamental flaws of the Constitution as a founding document. We look forward to learning more about these founding flaws and their continued impact in American law. \n\nProfessor Paul Gowder of Northwestern Law will moderate the discussion. His research centers on the rule of law, democratic theory, social and racial equality, institutional and organizational governance, and the law of technology, as well as the technology of law.\n\nFor details, click here: https://getinvolved.acslaw.org/component/events/event/947
