DESCRIPTION: Peace cannot exist without the rule of law, and the free speech protection of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution is a critical rule of law for the peaceful operation of a democracy. Student speech inside and outside the classroom is protected against government interference by the First Amendment. However this protection has limits and students are often disciplined for their speech, including speech on social media. During this Zoom forum, sponsored by the ACS Delaware Lawyer Chapter, lawyers, educators, and advocates will discuss how the limits of student free speech protection for social media speech are balanced against the right of schools to discipline students in order to maintain a safe school environment for all students and teachers. Participants are encouraged to bring their questions and points of view. Lawyers, students, teachers and school administrators are encouraged to attend.\nHon.
