DESCRIPTION: Suddenly, it seems that government regulation of the high-technology industry, once a matter confined to obscure discussions at a high plane of speculation and abstraction, has become the topic du jour at Congressional hearings, business conferences, political campaign events, mass media articles and, of course, on social media. Join the ACS Puget Sound Lawyer Chapter for a discussion with Margaret O'Mara as she shares her expertise on the high-tech economy and its connection to the world of law and public policy.\n\nFeaturing:\n\nMargaret O’Mara, Howard & Frances Keller Endowed Professor of History, University of Washington\n\n \nProfessor O'Mara is the Howard & Frances Keller Endowed Professor of History at the University of Washington and a contributing opinion writer at The New York Times. She writes and teaches about the growth of the high-tech economy, the history of U.S. politics, and the connections between the two. Professor O’Mara is the author of the recent best-seller, The Code: Silicon Valley and the Remaking of America (Penguin Press, 2019) and several other books. In addition to her New York Times opinions pieces, her writing also has appeared in The Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, Bloomberg Businessweek, Foreign Policy, the American Prospect, and Pacific Standard. She received her MA/PhD from the University of Pennsylvania and her BA from Northwestern University. Prior to her academic career, she worked in the Clinton White House and served as a contributing researcher at the Brookings Institution.\n \n\n\nPhoto Credit: Jim Garner\n\n\n \nAs the nation’s leading progressive legal organization, ACS is committed to ensuring that all aspects of our events are accessible and enjoyable for all.
