DESCRIPTION: Join the ACS Chicago Lawyer Chapter and the National Juvenile Defenders Center for an evening discussion with civil rights lawyer Jarrett Adams. Mr. Adams will share his personal experiences with the criminal justice system, both as an attorney and as an exoneree, and give a first-hand account of the pitfalls potential facing the wrongly accused. We'll also learn more about the critical need for experienced trial lawyers in the defense of young defendants.\n \n\n\nFeaturing:\n \n\nJarrett Adams, Attorney, The Law Offices of Jarrett Adams, PLLC\n \n\n\nLight refreshments will be served.\n\nJarrett Adams was wrongfully convicted of sexual assault at age 17 and sentenced to 28 years in a maximum-security prison. After serving nearly 10 years and filing multiple appeals, Adams was exonerated with the assistance of the Wisconsin Innocence Project. Adams used the injustice he endured as inspiration to become an advocate for the underserved and often uncounted. After law school, he completed a public interest law fellowship with Judge Ann Claire Williams on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. This is the same court that reversed Adams’s conviction because of his trial lawyer’s constitutional deficiencies. Adams’s remarkable story has captured both local and national media attention. \n\n\nAs the nation’s leading progressive legal organization, ACS is committed to ensuring that all aspects of our events are accessible and enjoyable for all. If you require any accommodations, please contact us either at LCemails@acslaw.org or 202.734.7310.\n\nFor details, click here: https://getinvolved.acslaw.org/component/events/event/407
