DESCRIPTION: Join the Boston Lawyer Chapter and the Suffolk University Law School Student Chapter of the American Constitution Society for a discussion with New York University School of Law (NYU Law) Professor Rachel Barkow and Massachusetts State Representative Jay Livingstone on potential reforms to address mass incarceration. \n\nRachel E. Barkow teaches courses in criminal law, administrative law, and constitutional law at NYU Law. In June 2013, the U.S. Senate confirmed her as a member of the U.S. Sentencing Commission, where she served until January 2019. Since 2010, she has also been a member of the Conviction Integrity Policy Advisory Panel in the Manhattan District Attorney's Office. Her forthcoming book, Prisoners of Politics: Breaking the Cycle of Mass Incarceration, will address the political dynamics behind mass incarceration and institutional reforms to curtail it.\n\nThe Honorable Jay Livingstone has been a Massachusetts State Representative since July 2013. He has practiced law since 1998, working in public and private practice, and is currently of counsel at The Employee Rights Group, LLP. Rep. Livingstone served as an adjunct professor at Northeastern University Law School from August 2009 through June 2013.
