DESCRIPTION: Civic Duty Rice, the ACS Houston Lawyer Chapter, Every Vote Counts, and The Civics Center are hosting a two-part event.\n\nPart 1\n\nJoin us for Harris County Volunteer Deputy Voter Registrar training from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Under Texas law, anyone who wishes to register voters must be deputized as a VDR by the county in order to handle completed voter registration forms. VDR eligibility is limited to U.S. citizens and Texas residents who are at least 18 years of age. To become a VDR, an eligible resident must attend a mandatory training session run by individual counties. The VDRs must be deputized on a county-by-county basis. Once trained, attendees will be able to legally register voters in Harris County.\n\nRSVP above, but please register at https://www.hctax.net/Voter/Deputy no later than 48 hours in advance to receive your certificate of appointment on the same day of the VDVR training. If no RSVP is submitted, you can still attend and receive your certificate of appointment by mail within 10 business days after completion.\n\nVolunteer Deputy Voter Registrar Training conducted by the Office of Ann Harris Bennett. Participants must arrive on time and attend the training in its entirety.\n\nPart 2\n\nA Panel on Youth Voter Engagement will immediately follow from 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. The panel will discuss Texas’s draconian voter registration laws and the state of Voting Rights in Houston.
