DESCRIPTION: Across the political spectrum, from conservative to liberal, there remains keen interest in the appointment of Brett Kavanaugh to the United States Supreme Court. There are two distinct yet related aspects to this interest.\n\nFirst, it relates to the process and hearings that lead to the confirmation of Kavanaugh by the United States Senate. There remain contrasting views as to the fairness of the process and hearings leading up to this confirmation to all persons involved, including Brett Kavanaugh and Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, and these contrasting views may impact public perceptions of the independence and legitimacy of the judiciary.\n\nSecond, it relates to the ways Brett Kavanaugh’s appointment may alter the United States Supreme Court’s approach in cases involving the respective authority of states and the federal government, constitutional checks on the President and executive branch authority, and the place of originalism in judicial interpretation.\n\nTo explore these questions, please join the Golden Gate University School of Law (GGU Law) alongside the Bay Area Lawyer Chapter, GGU Law Student Chapter, and Stanford Law School Student Chapter of the American Constitution Society for a 90-minute discussion.\n\nFeaturing:\n\nCaroline Fredrickson, President, American Constitution Society\nPaul Stanton Kibel, Professor of Law, Golden Gate University School of Law\n1.5 hours of California CLE credit have been approved.
