Event Details

Join ACS in Denver for a Leaders from Law Workshop with Georgetown University Law Professor Heidi Li Feldman. The workshop will run the evening of Friday, November 1 and all day Saturday, November 2 at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, and is cosponsored by the Denver ACS Student Chapter.

The application, due ASAP, can be found here. ACS membership is required to participate. To become an ACS member, you can join here.

The registration fee is $25 for students and $50 for lawyers. Please note that the registration fee is nonrefundable and space is limited, so please be sure you are able to attend the full 1.5 day workshop.

There is a significant amount of construction going on around the University of Denver’s campus, and street parking options are limited. If you would like to reserve an on-site parking spot for either or both days, please ensure that you reserve both a "General Admission" ticket and a "Parking" ticket for every day you need parking. Reserved parking spots cost $10/day.

If you do not wish to purchase parking, there is metered parking available along Evans Avenue and University Boulevard and unmetered parking throughout the neighborhood that are a short walk from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. The workshop will be held in the Certificate in Legal Research Room. The CLR Room is located off of the Law Library.

General overview:

The Leaders from Law workshop is geared toward progressive law students and recent law graduates (2014–present) who want to operationalize their interest in running for elected office and will explore four main themes:

  • Organization: How to organize yourself to run for office, especially offices where your legal skills and talents can make a difference.

  • Compliance: How to make sure you are you are in compliance with relevant election law.

  • Network Building: How to build connections and background useful to a candidacy.

  • Balance: How to balance building a legal career while aiming to run for office.

The session will be interactive and may involve light reading in advance. Be prepared to bring a tablet or laptop capable of connecting to the internet, and to participate in planned exercises and research.
