Please join the ACS Central Texas, Houston, and Dallas-Ft. Worth Lawyer Chapters in a one-hour CLE program on June 15 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. CT introducing Texas attorneys to federal habeas corpus as a tool for challenging unlawful immigration detention. As recent DHS policy changes have limited access to bond hearings, habeas petitions have become a critical avenue for detainees contesting prolonged or indefinite detention—particularly in Texas, home to the nation’s largest immigration detention system.
Participants will learn the legal foundations of immigration habeas petitions under 28 U.S.C. § 2241, common types of detention challenges, and key procedural requirements, including emergency relief strategies. The program also highlights TxILC’s Habeas Pro Bono Project, which provides volunteer attorneys with case referrals, mentorship, templates, and litigation support.
1.0 General CLE Credit.
