Event Details

Join the ACS Washington, DC Lawyer Chapter and the Communications Workers of America (CWA) for a “state of the union” panel discussion on the past, present, and future of the U.S. labor movement.

The panelists will assess the current position of the labor movement, how it got here, and where it is going next. In particular, they will review the intersection of courts, federal agencies, and the first amendment and the policy obstacles and opportunities related to organized labor. They will also discuss the reasons for workers and labor unions to be optimistic in today's era.

CWA is an international labor organization representing more than 700,000 workers in the telecommunications, broadcasting, journalism, and airline industries, among others. ACS is a progressive legal and policy organization with more than 200 chapters nationwide, focusing both on issues of local and national concern and on the cultivation of the next generation of progressive lawyers, judges, legislators, and academics.

Featuring:

Jennifer Abruzzo, Special Counsel for Strategic Initiatives, Communications Workers of America (CWA)
Stephanie Basile, Senior Campaign Lead, The NewsGuild-CWA
Angela Thompson, Associate Director, American Federation of Teachers

Moderated by:

Jose Masini, Assistant General Counsel, International Union of Operating Engineers

The program will begin with a light reception at 5:30 p.m. The panel discussion will begin at 6:00 p.m.

Advance registration is required due to CWA building security protocols.
