Victor Jones is a Senior Supervising Attorney at Southern Poverty Law Center in New Orleans. At SPLC, Victor leads the Louisiana Children’s Rights Practice Group, through litigation, policy, and public education, in fighting the school to prison pipeline, promoting education equity, and ensuring access to mental health services for Louisiana’s most vulnerable youth. Within the past six months, the Children’s Rights Team has: (1) published a white paper on school policing programs in Louisiana; (2) scored a victory in a local case against a charter school that garnered national attention; and (3) drafted and successfully promoted legislation regarding school discipline and policing. Additionally, the Children’s Rights Team currently has multiple civil rights investigations ongoing.

Prior to joining SPLC, Victor sent 7 years in private defense as a litigation, employment law, and education attorney at Adams and Reese LLP and Deutsch Kerrigan LLP, both in New Orleans. Prior to practicing law, Victor was a public school kindergarten teacher.

Victor is a graduate of Loyola University New Orleans College of Law where he was a member of the Moot Court Board, Coach of the First Amendment Team, and selected by his peers as their student commencement speaker. He also received a Master’s Degree in Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 2008. Victor has a Bachelor’s Degree in Literature from Xavier University of Louisiana, where he was elected Vice President of the Student Government Association. He is the recipient of the Louisiana State Bar Association Pro Bono Century Award, the Pro Bono Project 100+ Hours Award, and the National Black Lawyers Top 40 Under 40 Award. He is a native of Pascagoula, Mississippi, and doting father of two daughters.
