Event Details

Join the ACS Austin Lawyer Chapter for the 2019 Central Texas Juneteenth Parade. The Chapter will be marching in the parade and passing out ACS Pocket Constitutions.

Juneteenth, also known as "Freedom Day" or "Emancipation Day," commemorates the announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas. While President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation ended slavery on January 1, 1863, the Proclamation had little effect in the State of Texas. On June 19, 1865, a Union Army General read General Orders No. 3 to the people of Galveston, Texas:

“The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of personal rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and hired labor.”

Please meet at 14th & Comal at 8:45 a.m. to check-in for the parade, which will begin at 10:00 am. Street parking will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Look for the ACS logo!
